“I am interested in the space where nothing is yet defined, where perception hesitates and where, through image, thought begins to organize itself into form.”

Priscilla Cesar (1985)  is a brazilian artist, currently based in France, whose practice centers on drawing as a site of emergence. Self-taught, she works primarily with colored pencils, ink, and layered forms, developing compositions that unfold between abstraction and figuration, where images seem to surface progressively, as if thought itself were taking shape.

Informed by her studies in psychoanalysis and linguistics, her work engages with questions surrounding the formation of thought and the structuring of meaning. Through processes akin to automatic drawing, she constructs visual fields where ambiguity is not resolved but organized, echoing mechanisms such as pareidolia and the structuring logic of language.

Her visual approach, at once minimal and emotionally resonant, often conveys a deliberate softness. Beneath an apparent simplicity, her works reveal a subtle tension between vulnerability and control, immediacy and conceptual density. Stylized figures and suspended forms emerge within these compositions, inviting an instinctive reading while resisting fixed interpretation.

Priscilla Cesar’s practice explores how perception transforms the uncertain into the familiar, examining projection, relational dynamics, and the fragile stabilization of meaning. Alongside her artistic work, her engagement with psychoanalysis continues to inform her reflection on how thought takes form through images, focusing on the symbolic operations that structure perception and give coherence to what initially appears as indeterminate.
